What you get as a teacher

See where every student is

Your class roster shows how far each student has got, lesson by lesson. Not a percentage for the whole course, but which lesson they finished and when.

Read their work and reply

Students hand in written answers, files or a link to something they made. You read it, write feedback, and they get an email telling them to look.

A guide for each module

Discussion questions, what the module is trying to teach, and what good answers tend to look like. Written for the teacher, not shown to students.

Invite your class in one go

Send a link or a list of email addresses. Students who join through your link are added to your roster automatically.

Run a pitch night

Set up a showcase, let students enter their pitch, and have the class or their families vote. Nothing appears until you approve it.

Starting takes about ten minutes

  3. 3Open Module 1 and set the first few lessons. You will see progress arrive as they work.

What Hatchable is not

Worth knowing before you plan a term around it.

  • It does not grant credit. We are not an accredited school. Students get a certificate on completion, and that is a record of work rather than a qualification.
  • It is not mapped to a provincial curriculum. We have not published a formal alignment for any province yet. Tell us which course you teach and it helps us pick the first one.
  • It is not a shop platform. A student can take reservations and record what they sold, but we do not process payments or ship anything. If a student business really takes off, they will outgrow us, and that is a good problem.
  • Module 9 has no teacher guide yet. The other eight do.

Questions teachers ask

Is it actually free?
Yes. There is no cost, no licence, no per-student fee and no card required, for students or for teachers. We are not a charity or a not-for-profit. The course is simply free to use.
Do I have to teach the whole thing?
No. Every lesson has its own page, so you can use one module, one week of it, or a single worked example. Modules 1 to 8 are readable without an account, so you can look before you decide.
Does it count for credit?
No. Hatchable is not an accredited school and does not grant credits. Students who finish the whole course get a certificate from us, which is a record of the work and nothing more.
Is it matched to my province's curriculum?
Not yet. The material was written to teach entrepreneurship well rather than to satisfy a particular provincial document, and we have not published a formal mapping for any province. If you tell us which course you teach, that helps us decide which one to do first.
Do students spend any money?
No. If a student sets up a shop for their project, it takes reservations only. No card is entered and no payment goes through Hatchable. Customers pay the student in person when they collect. Money never moves through us, which is also why a student under 18 can run their own shop here when they could not open a merchant account elsewhere.
The videos are on YouTube. Our board blocks it.
That is worth checking before you plan around the course. The 106 videos are unlisted YouTube embeds, so a board that blocks YouTube will block them. Everything written, which is most of the course, still works.
