Final Assignment: Spotting an Opportunity and Validating It
In Assignment 1, you identified a community and a problem or opportunity you want to address. Now it is time to validate that opportunity — to confirm it is a real, significant problem worth solving.
This is one of the most important steps in the entrepreneurial journey. Building a solution to a problem that does not truly matter to people wastes time and resources. Validation ensures you are working on something that genuinely creates value.
Step 1 — Revisit Your Opportunity
Go back to the community and problem you identified in Assignment 1. Ask yourself:
- Is this a problem that genuinely affects this community?
- Can I confirm it is real — not just my assumption?
- Would solving this problem create meaningful value for people?
Step 2 — Choose Your Validation Methods
Select at least two of the following validation approaches:
Option A — Community Interview Have a conversation with at least one person from your chosen community. Ask open-ended questions about the problem. Take notes on what they say.
Option B — Survey Create a short survey (4–6 questions) and share it with at least 5 people from your community. Summarize what you learned.
Option C — Observational Research Observe your community directly and take detailed notes. What patterns do you notice? What does behaviour tell you about the problem?
Option D — Secondary Research Look for existing research, articles, or reports that document the problem you identified. Cite at least one source.
Step 3 — Analyze and Conclude
After gathering your evidence, write a short conclusion (1–2 paragraphs):
- What did you learn from your validation methods?
- Does the evidence confirm the problem is real and significant?
- What is your next step?
