Section 1b — Market Research and Unique Value Proposition

Finding Your Unique Value Proposition (UVP)

Now let's talk about using market research to find your Unique Value Proposition — or UVP.

Your Unique Value Proposition (UVP) is the key that unlocks the door to showcasing everything special about your product or service to your customers. It's a concise statement that explains why your offering outshines the alternatives.

Think of it as the answer to: "What unique feature or quality does my solution have that resolves my customers' needs better than anything else?"

Discovering Your UVP

To uncover the UVP of your entrepreneurial idea, you need to conduct research. This research provides the information you need to compare your idea with existing solutions in the market.

To craft a strong UVP, you need to address some pivotal questions:

  • What issues or needs do your community, customers, or audience experience?
  • How does your product or service tackle these problems or fulfil their needs?
  • What makes your idea distinct and exceptional compared to what's already out there?
  • Why should customers choose your solution over other options?

You can already answer some of these questions from the work you've done in Modules 2 and 3. Others — especially "what makes your idea better than the competition" — require fresh research. After all, you can't know how you're different if you don't know what else is out there!

To answer these questions, you'll embark on a journey of market research. Let's get started!
