Aisha's Response — Scenario A: Youth Empowerment Community
Aisha (14, Ottawa) chose Scenario A: Youth Empowerment Community.
Channels
For the Youth Empowerment Community, I would recommend the following three channels:
1. TikTok and Instagram Since the target audience is kids aged 10–16, TikTok and Instagram are the most effective channels. Short videos showing fun moments from arts and sports programs would attract young people. Seeing their peers having fun would be compelling. These platforms are free to use and allow direct engagement through comments and DMs.
2. School newsletters and morning announcements Partnering with local schools to include information in their newsletters and morning announcements would reach both students and parents directly. Parents especially trust school communications, so this channel adds credibility to the program.
3. Community centre bulletin boards and local Facebook groups Physical posters in community centres, libraries, and places of worship — plus posts in neighbourhood Facebook groups — would reach parents who might not be on TikTok. These channels are free and reach people who are already engaged in community life.
Partnership Opportunities
1. Local youth sports teams and arts organizations Partnering with existing youth sports leagues and arts schools would give the Youth Empowerment Community access to their networks. These organizations already work with the target age group and could co-host events or share promotional materials.
2. Local schools and school boards Schools are natural partners. They have the audience (students aged 10–16) and the trust of parents. A partnership could mean the community program gets to present at school assemblies, or teachers recommend the program to students who need extra support.
3. Art schools and music programs Partnering with local art and music schools for events would expand programming options and give the Youth Empowerment Community access to professional instructors. This adds quality to their programs and gives the partner schools exposure to potential future students.
Combining Channels and Partnerships
If the Youth Empowerment Community partners with local schools, the school could share information about the program through their newsletter and morning announcements — two channels the organization might not have access to independently. This partnership essentially opens up additional channels for free, reaching parents and students who might never have heard of the program otherwise.
By combining strong school partnerships with their own social media presence, the Youth Empowerment Community can reach both students (through TikTok/Instagram) and parents (through school channels and Facebook groups), covering their entire target audience.
