Final Assignment: Hypothesis Creation
You've used the 5W1H method to deeply understand your problem. You've explored what kinds of solutions are possible — products, services, or a mix of both. You've brainstormed multiple ideas and prioritized the most promising ones.
Now it's time to put it all together and create your solution hypotheses.
What to Do
This final assignment has three tasks:
Task 1: Revisit and refine your problem statement
Looking back at your 5W1H analysis (Assignment 3.1) and your research from Module 2, write a clear, one-sentence problem statement that captures the core of the issue you're trying to solve.
Task 2: List your top 3 solution ideas
From your brainstorming session, identify your three most promising solution ideas. For each one, briefly explain:
- What the solution is (product, service, or both?)
- Who it's designed for
- Why you believe it could work
Task 3: Write one If-Then hypothesis for each idea
Using the format we learned in this module, write a specific, testable hypothesis for each of your three ideas:
"If [I do X], then [Y will happen] for [target group Z]."
Each hypothesis should be:
- Specific — includes real details (numbers, timeframes, locations, target group)
- Testable — you can imagine how to test it
- Based on evidence — connected to your research from Module 2 and your 5W1H analysis
Tips for Success
- Go back to your research. Your Module 2 interviews and observations are gold. What did people actually say they needed?
- Be realistic. Your hypotheses should be testable with limited resources — you're a student entrepreneur, not a large corporation.
- Don't aim for perfection. A hypothesis is a starting point, not a final answer. You'll refine it as you learn more.
- Be specific. Vague hypotheses like "people will be happy" are not useful. Specific predictions like "at least 15 families will attend" are.
