Jenny's Assignment 1 — SMART Goals Analysis
Chosen project: Crafty Creations by Gema
Gema's goal is to "raise $2,000 in the next six months by selling her handmade jewelry."
My SMART Analysis
Specific: The goal is clear. Gema wants to raise a set amount of money — $2,000 — through a specific activity: selling handmade jewelry. We know exactly what she's doing and why (to fund a local children's hospital). That's very specific!
Measurable: It's measurable because she can track her earnings from jewelry sales. Every time she sells a piece, she can record the income and see how close she is to the $2,000 target. No guessing required.
Achievable: It seems achievable if she can sell enough jewelry within six months. Whether it's truly achievable depends on how much she charges per piece and how many she can produce and sell. But six months is a reasonable timeframe to build up sales, especially if she promotes her work at markets and online.
Relevant: The goal aligns perfectly with her mission — to raise funds for a local children's hospital. Selling jewelry is her passion AND her fundraising tool. This is a great example of a goal that connects personal strengths to a meaningful purpose.
Time-bound: The goal is time-bound, with a clear deadline of six months. This gives Gema a clear finish line and helps her figure out how much she needs to earn each month (about $333/month) to stay on track.
My Conclusion
Gema's goal is fully SMART and honestly one of my favorites because it combines creativity with community impact. It's specific (raise $2,000 selling jewelry), measurable (track earnings), achievable (realistic in six months), relevant (directly supports her mission), and time-bound (six-month deadline). As someone who loves art and creating things, I really admire how Gema turned her artistic passion into a way to help her community. Her goal shows that you don't have to choose between doing what you love and making a difference.
