Final Assignment Example — Aisha
Aisha is 14 years old, Somali-Canadian, and lives in Ottawa.
What Project Did You Choose?
Out of the three options I brainstormed, I decided to choose the option where separate in-person Somali language classes are offered — in addition to the virtual classes that already exist (for example, on Saturday mornings at the community centre).
Unique Value Proposition Map
Customer Profile:
a) Customer Jobs: The main problem I want to solve for my target audience — the Somali community in Ottawa — is to offer in-person Somali language lessons so that younger children can benefit from the face-to-face interaction and connection that these classes can provide. My audience wants their children to stay connected to their language, culture, and identity.
b) Customer Pains: Some students feel isolated when learning a language through a screen. They may feel that they learn best through face-to-face interaction with peers and teachers. Parents feel guilty and worried about their children losing their cultural identity, and they struggle to find accessible, affordable Somali language learning programs in Ottawa.
c) Customer Gains: Students will have the opportunity to have real, face-to-face conversations in Somali — a chance that virtual classes don't fully provide. They'll also build friendships and community connections within the local Somali community, strengthening their cultural identity alongside their language skills.
Value Map:
x) Value Proposition: We propose in-person Somali language classes that run throughout the school year, as well as during the summer term. This gives families greater flexibility and their children greater opportunity to interact and learn in Somali.
y) Pain Relievers: This service specifically addresses the mental health and comfort of children who may feel isolated in a virtual classroom. By being physically together, students feel more included, supported, and engaged in their learning.
z) Gain Creators: The special feature of this service is providing children with a positive, in-person environment that supports both their Somali language learning and their connection to Somali heritage and culture. Students don't just learn a language — they build a community.
Summary of Advantage
This project has the advantage of providing an environment where students feel genuinely welcomed and included — learning the Somali language and its cultural heritage while building real friendships within their community.
